About

Deliberately Aimless was born out of a sense of desire for that which cannot be. That feeling of wanting a simpler life when all is chaotic and modern about you; or, conversely, yearning for action when stillness surrounds you. Being deliberately aimless is about bicycling around a new city with no sense of purpose other than to see what you will find. It is about wandering a mountain trail, not so much to reach the summit, but to enjoy the beauty of nature. It is a belief that we all do have a greater purpose, but that we inevitably wander along the way.

"Pursue some path, however narrow and crooked, in which you can walk with love and reverence." –Henry David Thoreau

Deliberately Aimless also has an aim, and that is to observe the world around us. It is to enjoy scenes of beauty, to revel in the mystery of human nature, to critically examine life, to ponder the writings of others, and so forth. It is aimless to the extent that the topics of interest are broad reaching and wide ranging; it is deliberate in that it will attempt to dive deep into those topics. To muse, to philosophize, to examine, to appreciate, to investigate; that is what we are attempting to do here.

Musings

This tab contains contemplative musings of my own. The topics vary widely and encompass anything from evergreen content to ideas and thoughts about current events.

Writers & Thinkers

Under this heading the reader will find posts that explore the works of great writers and thinkers, both past and present. Posts may take the form of book reviews, analysis of ideas put forth in published works, or synopses and syntheses of ideas that I have found appealing.

Notes & Queries

This heading is similar to that of Writers & Thinkers, with the exception that it skews scientific in its material. It includes ideas from books, scientific journals, articles, and more. This is my attempt to dissect and engage with leading scientific ideas.

Poetry & Images

This tab contains both original poetry that I have written and photographs that I have taken – sometimes both in a single post. I write about what moves me, sometimes inspired by the images in the accompanying post.

Prose

This heading is straightforward. It is my original fiction work. Writing fictional prose allows me to let my mind wander and to attempt to hone my craft.
